Lifeguards, first responders honored for aiding shark attack victim

State Representative Debbie Mayfield City of Vero Beach lifeguard Eric Toomsoo was awarded the U'S. Lifeguard Association's Medal of Valor today for his role in rescuing German tourist Karin Stei during a share attach off Humiston Beach Park May 9, 2012.

Along with Toomsoo, 12 other first responders from Vero Beach, Indian River and Martin Counties were recognized in for their role in  treating shark attack victim Karin Stei.

  1. I watched on my computer as these individuals were honored for their assistance in treating the victim of a shark attack – and found myself clapping along with everyone else. Fantastic!
