Humane Society Hosts Canine Massage Training Classes January 28-February 3, 2019

NEWS RELEASE

The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County (HSVB) will be hosting two workshops on canine massage January 28-February 3, 2019 at the shelter’s Adoption and Education Center in Vero Beach. Both workshops will be conducted by the renowned Canis Bodyworks training center based in Chicago, which teaches both in the U.S. and abroad. Using shelter dogs to demonstrate various massage and trust-building techniques, classes will provide attendees with the opportunity to work toward national certification as a canine massage therapist. The skills learned in these workshops are a must for anyone volunteering and working in a shelter or as a pet professional.
“Our basic canine massage workshop includes trust-building along with touch and massage techniques for a variety of benefits,” explained Canis Bodyworks founder DeniseTheobald. “Results don’t lie. These results are what have given me, as well as the students and professionals in this field, the conviction to work in a profession that is just now emerging into the mainstream,” she added.
Theobald  prefers conducting her workshops in a shelter environment since it’s beneficial to both the dogs and her students. “Massage can be a life-saver in a shelter setting. Nervous dogs will always benefit from fear-free handling, trust building and enrichment.  These trainings are a win-win. They help us instruct new students and also help make dogs more adoptable,” she revealed.
The following workshops at HSVB will offer participants a solid foundation in canine massage therapy:
Trust and Relationship Building with Dogs (January 28-January 30, 2019 – 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.) Whether you are working with a client’s dog, shelter dog or your own dog, the art of canine massage requires an in-depth understanding of dog behavior and body language. During this three-day workshop, participants will receive hands-on training to learn how to recognize signs of pain and stress, communicate trust and confidence to through the subtle sense of touch.  $450
Canine Massage Fundamentals (February 1-3, 2019 – 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.) This workshop is designed to provide students with the tools necessary to provide a dog with an effective and safe massage that promotes relaxation and well-being. Participants will learn essential massage skills, palpation, skeletal anatomy, proper body mechanics and how to engage your “thinking fingers” to assess a dog’s body condition. Students will also learn how to recognize signs of pain and stress along with universal safety recommendations and contraindications to massage.  $450
