Over the past decade YSF has engaged and empowered more than one thousand local children by offering youth sailing instruction free of charge. Five years ago they added fee-based classes for adults, which has not only taught hundreds to sail, but has also helped support their growing youth programs. Now YSF is taking the next step in establishing community sailing in Vero Beach by offering qualified adult sailors the opportunity to rent boats and go sailing on the Indian River Lagoon.
YSF Sail Club offers a fleet of 12 popular small sailboats, including Sunfish, Lasers, C420’s, an O’Day 17’, a Bauer 12’, an MIT skiff, and a Hobie Cat. Beginning October 2, boats will be available by reservation Wednesdays through Sundays, 10 am to 6 pm. A beach steward and safety officer will be on hand to check in sailors, provide launch assistance, and man a safety boat.
Free trial memberships are available through December 15, 2019. To qualify, register online at www.ysfirc.org and attend a one-hour orientation session to review safety, rigging and sailing procedures. An initiation fee of $50 will be credited toward any 2020 membership. YSF’s online booking system allows members to make reservations quickly and easily from a computer or phone.
Beginning in January, annual memberships will be available $600 ($50/month, $12/week). Six- and three-month memberships will be $360 and $240, respectively. Memberships include unlimited access (by reservation) to the 12-boat fleet by qualified sailors during hours of operation.
All income from YSF Sail Club helps fund youth sailing programs, which are offered free to charge to children in Indian River County. For more information visit www.ysfirc.org or call 772-492-3243.
