Vero Beach Dog Park Recognized

NEWS RELEASE

Vero Beach Dog Park was recognized with a GREEN Award at the Industry Appreciation Awards luncheon held by the Economic Development Division of the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce.  The park was recognized in the category of Architectural Recognition for Phase II of dog park improvements.

The Architectural Recognition category recognizes projects for their aesthetic achievements, how the project (or building) improves the area in which it is located, the ease of access for pedestrians and vehicles, plus improvements that are above and beyond what is required by local government. The GREEN award, recognized, among other criteria, the improvements made to the natural environment, using draught tolerant, or xeriscape landscape methods.

Each year, the Chamber celebrates the achievements of local companies at this luncheon. The event was attended by nearly 200 local business people and was held at the Indian River State College Richardson Center. The dog park was among 20 businesses, non-profit organizations, and local governments to earn 2019 recognition in a variety of categories.

The only free public dog park in Vero Beach, the 5-acre Vero Beach Dog Park is maintained in first-rate condition thanks to the generous support of private citizens and grants. There has been over $200,000 in private dollars invested in capital improvements to the park since it began in 2014. No taxpayer dollars support the dog park.

Capital improvements made in the dog park have included fencing, utilities, shade trees, benches, pavilions, shade canopies and information kiosks. Beautifully landscaped parking areas with handicapped parking and access have been constructed on both the east and south sides of the property. The parking pavers allow rainwater to permeate to a stone base where it gradually absorbs into the soil. This system avoids directing storm water to the Indian River Lagoon.  At the east entrance, a shade structure covers a memorial garden providing access to seniors, young children, and those with disabilities.

The dog park is located on Indian River Drive East and is leased from the City of Vero Beach. The dog park is managed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors.  The mission of the dog park is to provide a clean, safe environment for both dogs and their owners. 1. You used to be a good source of news, but now you are as bad as 32963 and TCPalm. You run this article but yet you supported Rey Neville for city council. If you had done proper research you would know that Rey Neville went to every city council meeting and all the park and recreation meetings vehemently speaking against the dog park. He wants and has stated many times in public that this land should be turned over for Marina use and turned into a parking lot. Shame on you turning into TCPalm and 32963, enemies of the city.
