Three Corners needs you – so where are you?

COMMENTARY

MILT THOMAS

Certainly you have an opinion about the future of this building, don’t you?

Whatever happens to the waterfront property at the west end of the 17th Street Alma Lee Loy Bridge will affect all of Vero Beach and most people in southern Indian River County. All of you have the opportunity to express your opinion as to what ends up there, yet less than 200 people have submitted their comments or ideas.

As one longtime resident and banker once told me, what is now John’s Island was once considered as a college campus and what is now The Moorings could have been a trailer park. How different would our great little community be if those two ideas had been followed through? And what if longtime mayor and visionary, Alex MacWilliam, had not convinced the US Army Corps of Engineers to dump dredged river bottom on the swampy shore that became Riverside Park and Memorial Island?

Now you have the opportunity to determine the future of a property that could define Vero’s future. Yes  all it gets is an enthusiastic wave of indifference.

I know it’s holiday time and this is probably the last thing on your to do list, but as you gather around with family, attend church or synagogue services and celebrate the upcoming New Year, why not bring the subject up for discussion, then go to www.speakupverobeach.org and register your opinion.

It sure beats talking politics!
