Program 2 of Ballet Vero Beach’s 2019-2020 expanded main stage season is next in the company’s spectacular lucky seventh season. The company is thrilled to announce “Composers Notebook: The Music of Paul Gay” with performances February 28-29 at the VBHS Performing Arts Center. Tickets range from $10-$75 and can be purchased at balletverobeach.org or by calling the VBHS Performing Arts Center Box Office at 772-564-5537. Student Rush Tickets will be available for performances starting one hour before each performance at the Guest Services table inside the lobby.
Program 2 of our expanded 2019-2020 season represents our organization’s commitment to diving deep into the work of both the choreographers and composers we feature in our performances. For the first in what promises to be many in the Composer’s Notebook series, we feature our unique collaboration with local composer Paul Gay. Having collaborated with Mr. Gay twice before, Ballet Vero Beach is thrilled to now be able to feature an entire evening of dance set to Gay’s astonishing works.
Both of our much-lauded previous collaborations with Mr. Gay return to the stage. These include Camilo A. Rodriguez’s ravishing Divertissement Nostalgique which traces the history of the ballerina from the Romantic Era to the present using Gay’s evocative Beethoven Variants, and Adam Schnell’s dramatic and nuanced In Which Cio-Cio San Goes With Pinkerton which uses Gay’s composition of the same name to suggest the universal themes of love and loss based on the title characters from the Puccini Opera Madame Butterfly.
In addition, this program will be brought to a thrilling close with a world premiere work set to Gay’s thrilling Sonata for Violin and Piano co-choreographed by the pair. This represents the first time Rodriguez and Schnell have worked together on choreography. All works on the program feature recordings of Gay’s work exclusive to Ballet Vero Beach using world-class performers.
Ballet Vero Beach’s 2019-2020 Season is underwritten by Stacey and Robert Lewis, Lisa and Eddie McLaughlin, and The Florida Division of Cultural Affairs. Program 2 is underwritten The Mullan Family Foundation (Tim and Mary Mullan).
