FORT PIERCE – Save the Chimps will host its third annual Member Day Event on January 26. The first Member Day event, held in January 2012, reached capacity with 300 visitors who were given an opportunity toured the world’s largest chimpanzee sanctuary.
The sanctuary is usually closed to the public so the chimpanzees can enjoy their lives in a peaceful environment. Member Day is the only opportunity for people to tour the 150-acre sanctuary and witness over 250 chimpanzees enjoying their island homes.
“Member Day was created as a way to connect the people who are dedicated to supporting our mission and give them an opportunity to witness first hand how their generosity benefits our chimpanzee residents,” said Save the Chimps Director of Communications Triana Romero.
Save the Chimps will be open to all current 2013 members or to those who become members at the $50 Enthusiast level. Guided walking tours of the sanctuary grounds begin at 11 a.m. and will continue through 3:00 p.m. However, reservations are required to secure a time slot.
The walking tour covers 1.25 miles of the expansive 150-acre sanctuary located west of Ft. Pierce. Limited slots are available for a golf cart tour for members who are not able to participate in a walking tour.
To become a member of Save the Chimps and to reserve a tour time visit http://www.savethechimps.org/memberday or call 772-429-2225 to reserve a slot.
