INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – The County Commission yesterday delayed taking action on extending the county’s contract with the Senior Resource Association to operate the GoLine bus service.
Though the agreement was on the consent agenda for yesterday’s meeting, Commissioner Tim Zorc asked that it be considered separately. Zorc, as well as Commissioner Joe Flescher, said they had heard from members of the public who are concerned that the 3-year, $1.4 million agreement between the county and the SRA has not been considered by the Metropolitan Planning Organization in public meetings.
County Administrator Joe Baird, said the agreement was required to comply with federal regulations. The county receives matching grants to operate GoLine, and must comply with federal guidelines. Baird said the agreement was more routine than anything, but others saw it differently.
Sebastian City Councilmember Andrea Coy told the Commission the agreement should first be “vetted” by the Metropolitan Planning Organization. Coy said she was uncomfortable with the way the agreement, or contract, was brought to the Commission before it had first received scrutiny and approval by the MPO.
In a motion made by Zorc and seconded by Commissioner Peter O’Bryan, the Commission voted 5-0 to delay until September taking action on its agreement with the SRA.
