School Board approves latest plan for easing Beachland traffic congestion

After seeing three earlier plans for easing traffic congestion at Beachland Elementary turned back because of objections by central beach residents and the City of Vero Beach Planning and Zoning Commission, the School Board unanimously approved a fourth option Tuesday.

Stressing that they are acting in order to address safety issues, Board members said they were cautiously optimistic the plan will be acceptable to the city and to Beachland neighbors.  Earlier proposals drew criticism because trees would have been removed, or because traffic would have been diverted around the school through neighborhood streets.

The latest plan calls for parents to enter school property on Indian River Drive, where they will then circle around a pick up loop and exit on Mockingbird Drive.
