The advisory board of the Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program is scheduled to meet today in Vero Beach. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. in the Building B conference room of the Indian River County Administration Complex.
The lagoon advisory board is expected to discuss the recent deaths of 100 manatees and approximately 250 pelicans that had been living within the estuary.
Tom Reinert, of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, is scheduled to address the board at 11:30 a.m. Reinert will give an update on research into the recent die-offs of the manatees and pelicans, which many suspect may be tied to the recent and mysterioius loss of some 40 percent of the lagoons seagrass.
