Mayor Fletcher’s actions at the last city council meeting were disgustedly embarrassing, disrespectful and intolerant.  Fletcher should be more professional, like in a business setting, and represent the people of Vero Beach in a way that people of all faiths would be proud.

While I do not associate myself with any specific religion, I do see merits of certain aspects of most religions.  I am agnostic, and for 2 years while on the Vero Beach City Council I listened to and read some proclamations that did not represent my beliefs.  I do, though, believe in the First Amendment and that government should not discriminate against nor promote any religion over others.

Close minded people, like Mayor Fletcher, are un-American and do nothing to help move the country in a positive social direction. There is still racism, there are still people who are against two consenting adults being married and Vero Beach has a Mayor who only supports organizations that accept Jesus Christ as their lord and savior.  I hope his actions encourage young progressive people to run for office who are ashamed to have Fletcher as a Mayor.
