Scott Stradley
Scott Stradley

When Utility Commission Chairman Scott Stradley stepped up to the podium during last Tuesday’s Council meeting, he was clearly cocked to throw a jab at Councilman Jay Kramer.  Stradley prefaced his remarks, which were eventually interrupted by Mayor Craig Fletcher, by saying, “Jay, I’ve always considered you a friend.”

Just a few weeks earlier, in Kramer’s absence, Stradley appeared before the Council and accused Kramer of “an egregious breach of the public trust.”

Kramer must have been left wondering, “With friends like Stradley, who needs enemies?”

  1. The non-partisan Utility Commission Chairman worked the polling place during the referendum for the entire day waving a “Yes” sign and encouraging anyone who would listen to him to vote Yes. He shared that duty with Glen Heran.

He was a hand picked partisan to bias the findings of the Utility Commission. Anyone who did not tow the party line was dismissed from the commission and replaced with a hack.

This program is starting to turn my stomach very badly..

  2. Mr. Stradley is campaigning for city council and campaigning for PAC
money. Mrs. Carroll is a lame duck council person and someone needs to get that FPL money, why not Scott.

  3. Mrs. Carroll is backed by Citizens for a Brighter Future PAC; a PAC largely funded by FPL. If they back her again she won’t need to work hard at all for her own campaign funds.

Mrs. Carroll was a founder of Operation Clean Sweep along with Mr. Wilson; not sure if it was a listed PAC.

Considering her friendship with Mrs. Brunges, an FPL representative and wife to the editor and publisher of the local Scripps newspaper, Mrs. Carroll is not a lame duck. She is one of the three that votes in unison for the giveaway to FPL and by all appearances at the last city council meeting she still has FPL support.

Mr. Stradley campaigned for Mosquito Control last year and lost. He ran a very negative campaign against Ms. Broda who was re-elected.

  4. Operation Clean Sweep probably was not a legit PAC. How could it be if Mr. Wilson was involved. How Ironic that they brought Jay to the council. Clearly, Mrs. Carroll is still not happy about that. Mr. Stradley is definitely running. And he is not gonna unseat Mr. Winger. I didn’t see any sign of FPL support for Mrs. Carroll at this meeting. What did I miss. How can we see how Citizens for a Brighter Future spends their money? What a shame that elections can be bought?

  5. Operation clean sweep did not bring Jay to the council. He ran his campaign independently. She claims that they endorsed him. O.K. well he has no control over who endorses him.

  6. I agree. I voted for Jay because of Jay. I found it funny that Mrs. Carroll felt like she was responsible for him being elected and portrayed him as a turncoat. Her reality is certainly not our reality. I voted for Jay last time also because of Jay. We should all vote for persons of integrity and stop voting on issues, disregarding integrity of candidates.

  7. What did you miss you ask. Were you at the meeting? Have you gone to any of the city council meetings in the past three years?

  8. I watch the meetings as I find time, but I still did not see a lot of evidence that FPL was that enamored with Mrs, Carroll. I do know that she is friendly with the Brunjes, but I don’t think FPL finds Mrs. Carroll will be that effective in bringing this deal home. Too much baggage. When are you going to announce your candidacy, and what is your take gonna be on all this?

Ken was there and noticed the association with FPL and all those still in the playing field; it happens off camera out in the hallway and lobby and when the camera stops rolling in the council chambers; the players don’t hide their connections. The deal is still on as it was begun and the players are the same.

Whether the deal is completed is up to numerous other components not addressed in the beginning as should have been; as well as other points needing addressed.

And I have no intention of running for office at this time.
