Living in an area where snakes, gators, bobcats and other wild animals live side by side with people makes an animal control officer absolutely vital. Their job is to make sure the community is safe no matter the ability of the home owner or community to pay for its removal. The first time some animal or human is hurt because someone could not afford to pay to have one of these creatures removed by a commercial enterprise, there is going to hell to pay.
The safety of a community’s residents (and visitors) has to be a concern and having an animal control officer on the job goes along with the safety issue.
especially on the barrier island.a snake bite, and the ability to identify that snake and get the antidote asap is vital. Dangerfield has helped a lot with that a lot.he has provided the county with a lot of anti-venom.
Whats wrong with using the sheriff department animal control since we are paying equally for the entire department without reaping any benefits. Do you folks pay any attention. And, Jason, you are a county resident, so how would a Vero Beach animal control officer help you.
It seems like a weak excuse that if some one has a python in their garage they would shop around for the best price to remove it. Lets have a City Drain unclogging officer, also. Mrs. Carroll called 911 for a possum in her yard.
Does our county administer and his family get free health insurance? Does the City of Vero Beach Mayor and higher ups get free insurance? How about we cut their salary or they pay like the rest of the public employees and we keep our animal control. We are a resort community and need our public services like animal control, police officers, fire department, life guards and other services to keep the rest of us employed. Remember when you cut the budget and it effects our community and our jobs we can’t pay your free benefits.
