SHERIFF’S OFFICE MEDIA RELEASE- DATE
Charles Wallace (54) had been in the Indian River County Jail since July 16, 2013. He had been arrested on a warrant for parole violation and was scheduled to be transferred to the Department of Corrections on July 27.
On the morning of July 25, Wallace had gone to breakfast and had returned to his cell around 6:20AM. A few minutes later, another inmate reported that Wallace was sitting on his bunk and collapsed. EMS was immediately notified and CPR was started. Paramedics arrived and transported Wallace to Indian River Medical Center. Continued resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful and Wallace was pronounced dead at 7:01AM.
Wallace had previously been admitted to IRMC on July 18, and was medically discharged on July 19. He was returned to the Indian River County Jail after his release from the hospital.
As is customary with any death involving an inmate, an investigation is underway. An initial review of the case by detectives reveals the death appears to be related to Wallace’s medical history but the investigation is not yet finalized and an autopsy is forthcoming.
Wallace was an Indian River County resident at the time of his arrest for parole violation.
