By Ed Taylor

When Charlie was caught after turning in forged voter petitions several years ago, I heard him on numerous radio shows blaming the supervisor of elections for his obvious scam. On the Lisa and Leo show, he called his son who was later convicted of forging the petitions a “political prisoner”.

He then uttered a phrase that I will consistently associate with him . . . “if you can’t attack the accusation, attack the accuser”. Having been a prosecutor for many years, I was quite familiar with that mentality and it is not a phrase that I associate with honor or integrity.

Apathy is the enemy of integrity in Vero Beach.

  1. Oh, thank you, Mr. Taylor! Coming from a person whom I respect – a local, no less – drives the point home that when dealing with a viper you could be bitten. Everything that Vero Beach is – good and bad – has come to us over a long period of time. What we and future generations have here is up to us – the citizens. Heaven help us, ’cause most of the voters are better at complaining than getting to the polls. A long time ago, in an America far, far away, there was ONE day to vote. Take it or leave it. Now we have early voting and voting by mail too. It is inevitable that there will always be Mr. Wilsons in abundance. We must get beyond the barnyard manure pile of politics and remember what is at stake.
