Jeffrey Matthew Formica “Jeff” of Vero Beach, FL, beloved father of Brooke and Olivia Formica, died suddenly on Wednesday August 7, 2013, at the age of 42, leaving a big hole in our hearts. He was a graduate of James Caldwell High School and Rutgers University. Professionally, sales was Jeff’s passion and it took him from New Jersey, to Atlanta, and ultimately to Florida. He loved working, interacting with people, and this was very apparent to all who met him. Jeff had a heart of gold and loved his family and friends unconditionally. While most of us were content with daily life, Jeff was out experiencing life to the fullest, vacationing coast to coast with his family and friends. From graduations to weddings to births and all life events in between, he gave us too many laughs to count and always lit up a room. He was a wonderful father who absolutely adored his beautiful little girls. Jeff is survived by his daughters Brooke and Olivia Formica, and their mother Stephanie Formica, of Wellington, FL. He is also survived by his parents, Gaye and Frank Formica of Vero Beach, sister and brother-in-law Liz & Paul Hart, niece Katie, and nephew Ryan, all of Satellite Beach, FL, and his brother Greg Formica, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and life-long friends who will miss him terribly. In lieu of flowers, an education fund has been created for his children. Donations may be made to any Wells Fargo Bank branch to the Jeffrey Formica Memorial Fund. The family will receive friends 2-3 PM, Monday, August 12, 2013 at the Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach with a prayer service beginning at 3 PM at the funeral home. http://www.strunkfuneralhome.com (8/11/13)

R. Champlin Sheridan Jr., 83, died Aug. 7. Sheridan, whose retirement home was in Orchid, Fla., died at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach of complications from emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and pulmonary hypertension. Sheridan, 83, a Baltimore-born printer and son of a printer, became a major philanthropic supporter of The Johns Hopkins University’s libraries in part because of what he called “sort of a natural affinity” for books and periodicals. He served as a trustee of both the university and Johns Hopkins Medicine and as a vice chair of the university’s board. At his death, he was a Johns Hopkins trustee emeritus. Known universally as “Champ,” Sheridan served in the Army in Korea during the Korean War and then returned to Baltimore to work for his father, the president and part-owner of printer Schneidereith and Sons Inc. Sheridan retired in 1998, selling his business to Bank Boston and moving back to Baltimore. After also purchasing a home in the Vero Beach area of Florida in 2002, the Sheridans became important benefactors of the Indian River Medical Center Foundation; in 2005, they were the first million-dollar donors to its $50 million campaign. A new surgical intensive care unit named in their honor opened at the hospital this year. Champ and Beverly Ann “Debbie” Sheridan were married in 1980. His previous marriage, to Suzanne Stevens Sheridan, ended in divorce. He is also survived by his children: Sally Wright Sheridan of Oklahoma City; Barrett Cathell Sheridan of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; Richard C. Sheridan III of Severna Park, Md.; Jon Strathmeyer of York, Pa.; and Amy Beth Sheridan Fazackerley of Alexandria, Va. The Sheridans have 10 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Monday, Aug. 12, at 1 p.m. at Christ by the Sea United Methodist Church, 3755 Highway A1A, Vero Beach, Fla. 32963.
