Teen catches blue marlin off Jaycee Beach

VERO BEACH — For Vero Beach teenagers Trenton Finch and Chris Botkin, Monday was supposed to offer typical summertime fare: Plenty of sun, fun and skim boarding.

But when a huge blue marlin appeared in the shallows, it gave the duo an incredible fish story that had to be seen to be believed.

  1. Since I don’t subscribe to TCPalm.com, I can’t read it, but somehow feel sad for the marlin. I suppose its injury would have caused it to die. Just came home from a documentary at Harbor Branch Oceanographic/FAU about the overfishing of our oceans –not “harvesting” but removal of vast quantities of sea life. Think “lumber industry” before replanting and selective harvesting was brought about. Only, we cannot replace from the ocean what we take. Anyway, it must have been very exciting for the young man, and I’m sure he’ll look forward to showing pictures and retelling this tale many times to his school chums.
