Poverty and hunger are problems that must be solved on the local level by those who care about their communities. Community leaders from the private and public sector are invited to begin the conversation through presentation, group discussion and breakout sessions. The symposium’s focus will be threefold: 1) identify services available, 2) identify needs and 3) pinpoint gaps in services – with the goal of identifying needs and opportunities to broaden services through collaboration.

Participation in the symposium is encouraged for organizations working in the fields of poverty relief to help lay the groundwork for the upcoming series of workshops supported by the comprehensive community wide initiative on collaboration funded by Indian River Community Foundation.

  1. There is a direct correlation with the number of people living in poverty and the nation’s economic conditions. Those who do not believe that hunger is a problem in this coimmunity need to learn more about the number of Title 1 schools in Indian River County. The Title 1 designation is only given when a substantial portion of the population are dependent on subsidized nutrition programsin our pubic schools.

Poverty is a problem that could and should be eradicated in this county.
