He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Pamela and four daughters, Pamela (Robert Russek), Mary Lou Di Giorgio, Christine (John McNeill), Claire (David Oakley); nine grandchildren, Melissa, Michael, Christopher, Kevin, Kelly, Joseph, Lindsey, Sydney and Lucas; two great grandchildren and sister, Anna (John Maini); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Millie, Mary, Rose, and Vera; and his brother Frank who died in the Battle of the Bulge. Joseph was inducted into the Army in 1943 and landed on the Normandy Beachhead on D-Day + 6. He was attached to George Patten’s 3rd Army and travelled through France. As the war was winding down they were in Germany and his battalion freed Buchenwald Concentration Camp. Quite a memory for a 19 year old. When the war ended and he returned to Brooklyn he made the decision to go to college. He entered St. John’s University in Brooklyn, where he met his future wife. Here he received a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He & Pamela were married on June 18, 1949 and in September he returned to St. John’s University to get his law degree. During this time he already had a job, and had to attend law school in the evenings. After graduating he was hired by Arabian American Oil Co., and had the credentials two years later to be hired by Lazard Freres & Co., a French investment banking firm. Here he learned enough about the oil and gas industry to leave Lazard Freres and start his own company, Westran Industries. Westran Industries was listed on the Stock Exchange and when he sold the company to the French, everyone made a profit. Following the sale of Westran Industries he worked as a consultant for several years until 1976 when he became a consultant and director for the Wessley Energy Corp. in Dallas, TX. During his time with Wessley the share appraised share price rose from $.37 to $15 per share. After the sale of Wessley in 1980, Joseph left to pursue a career in financial consulting for 10 years, and then spent 2 more years as a consultant before becoming the CEO of Hoenig Group, Inc. He officially retired in 1997. Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach.
