SHERIFF’S OFFICE MEDIA RELEASE
Today at approximately 4:30PM, a shooting occurred in the 4500 block of 33rd Avenue. A 38 year old St. Lucie County man was fatally shot in the chest and a 27 year old Indian River County resident (also male) is being transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center after being treated at IRMC for a single gunshot to the groin.
Witnesses report the two were in an argument earlier today. The argument is believed to be over two women but the details are not available as of this release. This afternoon, the St. Lucie County man reportedly returned to confront the 27 year old. Names of the subjects are not yet being released.
Witnesses told detectives after the 38 year old was shot, he was unresponsive before being driven to the hospital by an unidentified subject. The 27 year old was also transported to IRMC but a separate private vehicle.
Investigators have been unable to determine if the men shot each other or if other subjects were involved. Witnesses are still being interviewed and sought.
Detectives and deputies remain on scene and are expected to be processing the crime scene for several hours. The road is currently blocked and travelers are asked to seek an alternate route.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers.
