Keep Indian River Beautiful hosts coastal cleanup event

PRESS RELEASE

imageKeep Indian River Beautiful, Inc. “KIRB” was proud to organize again this year’s Ocean Conservancy 28th Annual International Coastal Cleanup Event.  This cleanup was a huge success.  We had approximately 1000 volunteers and 25 different sites being cleaned up last Saturday the 21st.  The different groups cleaned Indian River Counties; beaches, waterways, spoil islands, and lagoon shores.

Several different groups participated in the extravagant event and we would like to thank them along with our County Commissioners.  The groups who participated are:  Republic Services “Treasure Coast Refuse”, Solid Waste Disposal District, Kimley Horn & Associates, Girard Equipment, Liberty Magnet Elementary, Sebastian River Middle, Brown & Brown Ins, Costa De Este, Seacoast Bank, The Exchange Club, Little Dragons, Friends of Sebastian, Florida Outdoor Center, Sebastian inlet State Park, Kmets Nutall Elwell Grahm PLLC, Collins Brown Barkett Garauaglia & Lawn Vero Law, VBHS Environmental Club, W.H.A.M., Natural Resource Board, Plus individual group volunteers.

Republic Services “Treasure Coast Refuse” provided the dumpsters for trash and recycling at the different cleanup site locations.  Early reports show approximately .089 (just less than 1 Ton) of trash and 18 bags of recycled material.  The number of trash and recycling are down from last year even though we had more volunteers.  This proves that KIRB’s education programs and communities efforts are working.  KIRB provided to the volunteer’s T-Shirt, water, garbage bags, recycle bags, first aid kits, gloves, sunblock, and instructions for events. These supplies are available thanks to our wonderful sponsors, The County Commissioners, Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) Republic Services “Treasure Coast Refuse”, Kimley- Horn, Dagwood Subs, Girard Equipment, Sunshine Furniture, White Glove Moving & Storage, Grand Harbor, Waste Management, Reliable Septic, Reliable Polly John, Tree Planters of South Florida, Children’s Discovery Center, Indian River County Airboat Association, A-1A Property Management, Coca Cola, Glad, and Indian River Medical Center.
