Celebrating the Freedom to Read during Banned Book Week

The Treasure Coast ACLU will celebrate the freedom to read during Banned Book Week on Thursday, September 26th from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at the Indian River County Library. The public is invited to attend and read passages from favorite banned books. The event will take place in the library’s History Room on the second floor.

In recognition of the American Library Association’s “Banned Book” week (Sept. 22 thru Sept. 28)   http://www.ala.org/bbooks/bannedbooksweek , the event draws national attention to the dangers of censorship.    According to TA Wyner, President of the TC Chapter, “the books featured during Banned Books Week have all been targeted with removal or restrictions in libraries and schools and yet, in a majority of cases, have remained available thanks to the efforts of librarians, teachers, students, and community members who stand up and speak out for the freedom to read.”

The library is located at 1600 21st Street in Vero Beach.   For more information, contact  T.A. Wyner at 772-465-5658 or tawyner@aceweb.com
