Joseph William Damateo, 78, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away October 1, 2013 at his home. He was born March 5, 1935 in New Haven, CT and had been a resident of Vero Beach since 1999, coming from Boca Raton, FL. Mr. Damateo was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Jesus Gomez-Gonzalez (Yabu), 93, departed with the Lord on September 30, 2013 at Atlantic Healthcare in Vero Beach, Fl. He was a native from Yabucoa, Puerto Rico and lived in Vero Beach for 2 Years coming from Springfield, MA. A veteran from the United States Army who served in the Philippines during II World War era and honorably discharged. After serving, he returned back to Puerto Rico where he attended a trade school in which he obtained a certificate as a shoe maker/repair and established his own business. Jesus was known as Yabu, precedes his sons Juan Gomez-Mejias (from Springfield, MA and residing in Vero Beach0, Mercedes Gomez-Cruz (Chicopee, MA), Adalberto Gomez-Andujar (Arecibo, PR), and his daughters, Ramonita Gomez-Cruz (West Palm Beach, FL), Julia M. Cruz (Chicopee, MA) and Magdalena Gomez-Velasquez (Toa Alta, PR). He leaves 17 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. SERVICES: The Family will receive friends on Monday October 7th from 8-11AM with a religious service at 10:00AM at Strunk Funeral Home Vero Beach.
