Marilyn Fitz Gibbons, 83 of Vero Beach, died peacefully at her home in Vero Beach, FL. on Wednesday, October 9, 2013. She and her husband loved being part of the Vero Beach community and have lived in their beautiful house in Indian Trails for the last 17 years.

She was born June 25, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY. Marilyn grew up in Rockville Centre, NY and later, graduated from the Berkeley Secretarial School in Manhattan, NY. While working in Manhattan, Marilyn met her husband Bill and married on October 20, 1956. They moved to Great River, NY where they lived until moving to Vero Beach, FL in 1996. Most weekends, Marilyn could be found skiing the slopes of Vermont in the winter or water skiing and boating in the summer. Their family spent their summers on Fire Island, NY with many of their other boating friends.

In New York, Marilyn was actively involved in many organizations including the Junior League and the PTA and volunteered at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, NY. She served as the Hospitality Chairman for Indian Trails and competed on their tennis team where she played until she was no longer able, at 80 years old. Marilyn was also known for her competitive spirit, which could be seen during the neighborhood bridge game or playing monopoly with the grandkids. When Marilyn was not walking her dog, she could be spotted reading on her porch and enjoying her beautiful waterfall. Their summers were spent in Hendersonville, NC where Marilyn spent much of her time playing tennis, doing yoga and hiking. Even her grandkids had trouble keeping up with her.

Marilyn is survived by her son, Scott Fitz Gibbons, his wife Jeanne and her daughter, Jeanne Herrmann.  Grandchildren include Kerry and Katie Fitz Gibbons and Savannah, Colin and Ryan Herrmann. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.
