The first production of the Riverside Theatre’s 40th anniversary season begins with I love a Piano. The Irving Berlin musical will be presented from October 29th and runs through November 17. 2013. Responding to the enthusiastic reception past musicals that have been enjoyed by the Riverside audience, the Stark stage will be the setting for a celebration of the music of the prolific songwriter and musician Irving Berlin.
The audience will enjoy the popular songs that filled ballrooms, the Broadway stage and movies of a bygone era as a piano with one sour note passes from one owner to another. Told through the music of Irving Berlin, I love a Piano is filled with over sixty of Irving Berlin’s most beloved classics.
Directed by DJ Salisbury, I love a Piano stars Cynthia Ferrer as Sadie, Abby Church as Eileen, Anthony Christian Daniel as Jim, Jessica Lee Patty as Ginger, Richard Vida as Alex and Benjie Randall as George.
Design and production crew includes Anne Shuttlesworth (Music Director), Michael Anania (Scenic Designer) Holly Payne (Costume Designer) Rob Siler (Lighting Designer) Craig Beyrooti (Sound Designer) and Ingrid Olson (Production Stage Manager) and Casting by Wojcik Seay Casting.
Classic songs covering 70 years of life, love, fear and patriotism will be featured including “Blue Skies,” which was the first song ever sung on film in The Jazz Singer. “White Christmas” which was awarded the only Academy Award that Irving Berlin ever won. The show will also feature such well known songs as “There’s no business like show business,” “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” “Cheek to Cheek,” “Always,” “God Bless America,” and many more.
Performances are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.
Opening night (the first Tuesday performance), Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. with matinees on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m.
