Detailing his position on the sale of Vero Electric, City Council candidate Richard Winger issued the following statement today.
“I SUPPORT THE SALE OF THE VERO BEACH ELECTRIC SYSTEM as detailed in the contract signed February 19, 2013 and approved in the referendums of November 8, 2011, and March 12, 2013. As I have repeatedly stated, I believe it is in the City’s best interest to complete the sales contract with FPL. But unfortunately, completion continues to be under the control of FPL and FMPA, over which the City, nor any members of the City Council, has any influence as of the February contract.”
Acting on behalf of Citizens for a Better Future, and FPL-funded electioneering communication organization, utility activist Glenn Heran last week asked all five City Council candidates to sign a pledge to sell the city’s electric system to FPL.

I support Dick Winger’s attempt to have this “project” resolved in an above-board manner and without mortally-wounding the City of Vero Beach. So far, as Mr. Winger says, the City of Vero Beach has found itself not in control of much of anything. As far as Mr. Heran requesting candidates to sign a pledge of any kind, “kiss my grits” is as gentle as I would make my reply to Mr. H. Maybe “Go fly a kite” is another kind answer I’d bestow.
