New council elects Winger mayor, Kramer will serve as vice mayor

Following the canvasing board’s certification of the election results this morning, new Vero Beach City Council member Amelia Graves and re-elected Councilman Richard Winger were sworn in by City Clerk Tammy Vock.

Immediately after Graves and Winger took the oath of office, they joined fellow council members Craig Fletcher, Jay Kramer and Pilar Turner in an organizational meeting in which the new council unanimously elected Winger to serve as mayor for the next 12 months. Winger, who was nominated by Kramer, received support from 67.8 percent of the voters who cast ballots in Tuesday’s election.

Pilar Turner nominated herself for VIce Mayor. The new council elected Jay Kramer to the position.

After stressing his confidence in the current council’s experience and abilities, Winger then nominated Kramer to serve as vice mayor. Turner nominated herself for vice mayor, explaining that as she continues to represent the city as a member of the Florida Municipal Power Agency board the title would confer additional credibility. After a paper ballot, Kramer was named vice mayor.

The Council will meet next for a regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m.
