Dale E. Bassini, 84, passed away November 3, 2013 at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach. He was born in Orange, New Jersey and lived in Vero Beach since 1986, coming from Spring Lake Heights, New Jersey. He was Founder and President of Metal Distributors and Supply Company. Survivors include: His wife of 63 years, Joan E. Bassini of Vero Beach, sons; Dale G. Bassini (Linda) of Brick, New Jersey and Guy L. Bassini (Wendy) of Vero Beach, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Dawn G. Mary Alice Bittenbender, 93, died November 4, 2013 at her residence in Barefoot Bay, Florida. 

She was born in Varnville, South Carolina and lived in Barefoot Bay coming from Bethesda, Maryland in 1985. 

She was a Staff Assistant for the Federal Government and worked 
with the Pentagon for 7 years, the Health, Education and Welfare Administration, and the National Institute for Drug Abuse. 

Survivors include daughter Sylvia Lacey (George) of Waleska, Georgia, granddaughter Jessica Brigman (Jay) of Woodstock, Georgia, and great-grandchildren J.J., Mattox and Lyla Brigman of Woodstock, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Bittenbender in 1999. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity in memory of Mary Alice Bittenbender.

Aline_JarrettAline Jarrett, loving wife, mother and grandmother, peacefully passed away November 7, 2013 at VNA Hospice House at the age of 92. She was born December 11, 1920 in Neffs, OH and has lived in Florida since 1953. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mose and son, Jerry. She is survived by her daughter, Diana (Jim) Keegan of Vero Beach; son, Don (Jan) Jarrett of Tallahassee, son, Mark (Mary) Jarrett and grandchildren, Monica, Molly and Luke all of Northport, NY. FRITZFrederick “FRITZ” A. Scharfschwerdt, Sr., 88, died November 3, 2013 at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach. Mr. Scharfschwerdt was born in Ft. Pierce and lived in Vero Beach for 49 years coming from his birth place. He attended Dan McCarty High School in Ft. Pierce. Mr. Scharfschwerdt was a veteran having served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a supervisor for the Indian River County Road and Bridge Department for fifteen years before his retirement in 1999. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Norma Jean Scharfschwerdt of Vero Beach; children, Laura Harbour (John) of Smyrna, GA, Lynne Glass of Vero Beach, Anna Fuller (Dan) of Fort Pierce, Randy Perkuhn of Ann Arbor, MI, Lisa Hodges (Ron) of Kennesaw, GA, Rick Scharfschwerdt of Vero Beach, Tamara Perkuhn of Ann Arbor, MI, Jim Scharfschwerdt of Vero Beach and Barb Bodnar (Michael) of Vero Beach; 18 grandchildren, their spouses and 15 great- grandchildren. Mr. Scharfschwerdt was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Hibbert Scharfschwerdt and his 6 brothers and sisters. TYSONClifford Dewey Tyson, 86, died November 6, 2013 at his residence in Fellsmere. He was born in Kissimmee, Florida and moved to Fellsmere, FL in 1953. 

He retired in 1993 as Ranch Manager with Sun-Ag in Fellsmere, FL, after retirement he enjoyed working in Taxidermy. 

He was a Honorary Director of Florida Cattleman’s Association and he currently served on Board of Supervisor’s for Fellsmere Water Control District. 

Survivors include wife of 57 years, Joan Tyson of Fellsmere; son, Keith Tyson and his wife, Doris of Vero Beach; daughter, Laurie Tyson of Sebastian; brother, Joel Tyson of Fellsmere; grandson, Andrew of Brooklyn, New York 

Memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Youth Ranch, 10655 Roseland Road, Sebastian, FL 32958 in memory of Clifford Dewey Tyson.

VotapkaRichard William Votapka, 91, of Vero Beach, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at his home. Mr. Votapka was born December 11, 1921 in New York, NY. He had been a resident of this area since 1980, coming from Fort Lauderdale. He served in the United States Coast Guard as a Machinist Mate, 1st Class. Prior to his retirement he worked as a Deputy Inspector for the Nassau County Police Department for 25 years. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Pauline; son, Richard Bruce Votapka (Linda); four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Service times are pending. Burial will be held at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida. Arrangements are under the care of Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home, Vero Beach.
