Obituaries: November 24, 2013

Nate L. Adams, II of Vero Beach, Florida and Lexington, VA, passed away on November 20th 2013 at his home. 

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eloise Knox Adams, and their three sons, Hawes and his wife Karen of Columbia,SC, Robert Knox and his wife Cathy of Woodbridge, VA, Nate III and his wife Liza of Winchester, VA, and five grandchildren, Kimbrough, Cabell, Lee, Rob, and John Adams. 

Mr. Adams was born on March 2, 1924 in Lynchburg, VA. , the youngest child of the late Isaac F. and Sallie Kimbrough Coleman Adams. He graduated from Augusta Military Academy in Fort Defiance, VA, and worked as a professional musician with the Sonny Dunham Orchestra prior to enrolling in the Virginia Military Institute in the Fall of 1941. 

Following the attack on Pearl Harbor and the entry of the United States into World War II, Mr. Adams enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving with the 1st Marine Division in the Pacific Theatre. His brother, Hawes N. Adams, also enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and was killed in action in North Africa in 1943. 

After the war ended, Mr. Adams returned to Lexington to complete his education at Washington & Lee University, graduating with the Class of 1948. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. 

After graduation, Mr. Adams returned to the Marine Corps as a commissioned officer, serving from 1948 through 1972, which included both the Korean and Viet Nam conflicts. His assignments included commanding a heavy mortar platoon with the 1st Marine Division at Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War, and a tour of duty at Phu Bai, Viet Nam. While in Viet Nam, he fought in the Battle of Hue City during the Tet Offensive. His final assignment was as the commanding officer of the Marine Security Guard Battalion, which provided protective services for more than 120 United States Embassies and Consulates throughout the world. He retired with the rank of Lt. Col. 

After the completion of his military career, he relocated to Florida and worked as the Vice President of the Atlantic Ridge Corporation, an international real estate development company. 

Mr. Adams was an enthusiastic member of several professional military organizations and attended many reunions of his comrades in arms, as well as class reunions for VMI and W & L. He enjoyed boating, sports of all types, and Big Band Music, especially the Washington & Lee Swing. 

Burial will be with his Marine comrades in Quantico National Cemetery, Quantico, VA. at a later date. 

His family is thankful for a life well-lived, He was a good husband, father and friend.

logulloDaryl T. Logullo, 47, of Casselberry, Fla. went from this life to the next on Nov. 18, 2013. He died unexpectedly at home. Daryl was born Oct. 23, 1966 in Boynton Beach and raised in Jupiter, Fla. He was also a former resident of Boca Raton and Vero Beach, Fla., and Charlotte, N.C. Daryl is survived by his devoted wife, Beth; loving son, Matthew; parents, Chuck and Barbara Logullo of Jupiter; brother, Brian Logullo, sister-in-law, Charlotte, and their children Sam and Hannah, of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister, Alison Coffey, brother-in-law, Brad, and their children Tyler and Caden, of Jupiter. Daryl was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Katherine; and his grandparents, Donald and Pearl Bazinet and Charles and Mary Logullo. Daryl cherished time with his family as well as the memory of his daughter Katherine, and was passionate about sharing his love for Jesus Christ, spending time in worship, serving others in Christ’s name, and listening to contemporary Christian music. He loved baseball, investing time as a dedicated coach, umpire, announcer and encourager for the Vero Beach American Little League, and as an avid supporter for the Vero Beach, Providence, and Winter Springs high school baseball teams and numerous travel teams, including the South Charlotte Panthers and the Chet Lemon’s Juice teams. A true DIY-er, Daryl had a knack for fixing everything, enjoyed working on cars and home renovation projects, and helping others do the same. He also volunteered as a lead teacher of Crown Financial Ministry classes. Daryl was graduated from Jupiter High School in 1984, Palm Beach Junior College (now Palm Beach State College) in 1986, and Florida State University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science degree in finance. He was a member of Gamma Lambda Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi at FSU, a professional business fraternity, and served from 1990-1994 as a Trustee of the Delta Sigma Pi Leadership Foundation. Daryl has long been recognized as a leader and expert in finance, marketing and ecommerce, and was named to South Florida Business Journal’s “Top 40 Under Age 40.” Daryl worked in the financial services industry from 1990 to 1999. He was partner and co-creator of web start-up BusinessTalkRadio.com from 1998 to 2000, and hosted the “On the Money” radio show, which was broadcast live twice a day on WXEL 90.7 FM in South Florida. He founded Strategic Impact! and Marketing-Referral-Tools.com, and worked as a Principal for Ecommerce Consulting from 1999 to 2006; as marketing manager for Online Bridgevine (Broadband National) from 2006 to 2008; as ecommerce manager for Southern Fulfillment Services at Hale Groves, Pittman Davis, Eilenberger Bakery, Citrus Country from 2008 to 2012; and as director of ecommerce at American Lantern Press & Independent Living News from 2012 to 2013. He most recently worked as director of ecommerce at KellyCo Metal Detectors in Winter Springs, Fla., since March. Daryl was a frequent featured speaker at Internet retailer conventions, was a published author of several books about business as well as the book The Ideal Man, and was quoted, profiled and recognized by major media, including USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Entrepreneur Magazine, and dozens of others. Daryl was most recently quoted in the Multichannel Merchant as saying, “The way up in the kingdom is down, Mark 9:35. Life is not about winning or losing or more or less, but being humble and responsible with what you’ve been entrusted with.”  Daryl worked tirelessly to write, lobby and successfully pass the Florida Missing Angels Bill, which was renamed “Katherine’s Law” (www.KatherinesLaw.org) in honor of his daughter. The law allows for parents to receive a birth certificate for their stillborn children. As the national legislative liaison for the Missing Angels Foundation, Daryl played a vital role in passing birth certificate legislation for stillborn children in 18 other states, and helped produce a video to promote such legislation (http://missingangelsbill.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=76&Itemid=61). PrecordJosephine Emma Precord, 82, of Vero Beach, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the VNA Hospice House. She was born on August 28, 1931 in Ossineke, MI and lived in Vero Beach for 23 years, coming from Newaygo, MI. Mrs. Precord was a homemaker and a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church and Eucharistic Minister in Vero Beach, FL. She was also a volunteer of the Indian River Memorial Hospital. Survivors include her husband, of 62 years, James Precord of Vero Beach, FL; son, James Joseph Precord “Jill” of Vero Beach, FL; daughters, Mary Ann (David) Schmitt of White Hall, MI, Karen Marie (Joseph) Mead of Nunica, MI, Susan Kay (Daniel) Brewer of Muskegon, MI, Beth Lynn (Douglas) VanProoyen of Saranac, MI and Patti Jo (Louis) Green of Gaylord, MI; sisters, Freda Schultz, Yvonne Steele, Bernice Kuehl , Winifred Holmes and Nancy Robinson; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral home with Father Murphy officiating. ThweatDan Allen Thweatt, age 82, of Vero Beach, Florida died peacefully on November 21 , 2013. He was born on May 18, 1931, in Nashville, Tennessee. He moved to Eau Gallie in 1959 and has been a resident of Vero Beach since 1968. He graduated from Isaac Litton High School in Nashville, TN in 1950. After playing football at the University of Wyoming for two years, he transferred to Middle Tennessee State University where he lettered in football and received both his B. S. and Master’s Degree in Education. Dan served in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant from 1955-1957. He graduated from Ranger School in June, 1955. He spent eighteen months as an instructor for the U.S. Army School for Rangers training soldiers in mountain techniques in Dahlonega, GA until his enlistment was over on January 9th, 1957. Dan was a coach and educator for thirty years. His first teaching job was at Madison High School in Tennessee. In 1959 he came to Florida to teach and coach. He was the first football coach at Southwest Junior High School as well as basketball coach and athletic director. In 1962 at the opening of Satellite High School, he was the first football coach and Athletic Director. In 1967, his football team was in the State Championship playoffs, and he was named Cape Coast Conference Coach of the Year. In 1968, Dan moved to Vero Beach becoming the Head Football Coach and Athletic Director at Vero Beach High School. He was the first Girls’ Basketball Coach and coached both Boys’ and Girls’ Golf from 1971-1984. The teams won many honors during his tenure. He was the Business Manager at Vero Beach High School from 1971 until his retirement in 1984. In addition to his many friends and relatives, Dan will be sadly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 33 years, Paula Van Hooser, his two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Ken Coonce of Merritt Island and Susan Thweatt-Lee and Alan Lee. Dan has two brothers and their wives: Enoch and Jeannine Thweatt, Jr. of Nashville, TN and Mack and Sandra Thweatt of Murfreesboro, TN. He has four grand- children, Derek Matthews, Dustin Matthews, Amy Coonce and Ben Coonce. Dan was also blessed with one great-granddaughter Madison Matthews, daughter of Derek Matthews and Felisha Wallace. Dan was preceded in death by his parents Enoch and Eloise Thweatt, Sr. Dan was a very active member at the First United Methodist Church in Vero Beach. He was interim youth director for six months in 1985, past President of Keenagers, member of the Board of Trustees, maintenance supervisor, and Chancel Choir member. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Vero Beach at 2:30 pm followed by a Service of Remembrance and Celebration at 3:00 pm. Dan and Paula raised puppies for Southeastern Guide Dogs. Animals have always been an important part of his life.
