Campo Elias Carvajal, 97, died Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach. Campo was born in Ibague, Colombia and moved to Vero Beach 29 years ago coming from Bogota, Colombia. He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church. While in Colombia he was an entrepreneur and businessman owning four shoe stores and in Vero Beach he had worked for the Doctor’s Clinic prior to his retirement. Campo was known for his enjoyment of singing, dancing and always being perfectly dressed. Survivors include his wife Gladys Carvajal of Vero Beach, daughters Gilma Solis, Elsa Carvajal, Nancy Velasquez and Claudia Camacho, son Carlos Carvajal, eleven grandchildren and a great-grandson. A Mass to celebrate the life of Campo was held Friday, November 29, 2013 at St. Helen Catholic Church. Interment was at Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach. Lenia Altagracia Colón, 82, of Vero Beach, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the VNA Hospice House. She was born January 21, 1931 in Puerto Rico and had been a resident of Vero Beach for 21 years, coming from Bronx, NY. Mrs. Colón was an active member of the Centro Cristiano de Restauración Church. She was employed for Con Edison Utility as a Dispatcher for 20 years until her retirement in 1991. She was an animal lover and a proud mother of her son, Dr. Luis Rivera who was the founder of Emergency Medical Associates at Indian River Medical Center, where she was a volunteer. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Jose Colón of Vero Beach, FL; son, Dr. Luis Rivera of Sebastian, FL. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 2, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 2, 2013 at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral home from 11am – 1p.m. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery. Mary K. Czernis, 80, of Vero Beach, Florida passed away November 25, 2013 at her home with her family by her side. She was born September 17, 1933 in Schenectady, NY and had been a resident of Vero Beach since 1955. Mrs. Czernis retired as a banking officer from First Union Bank in Vero Beach after 33 years of service. Mary was a woman of strong faith. She was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church where she also served as a volunteer. She is survived by her sons, John (Brenda) Czernis of Tallahassee, FL and Raymond (Wanda) Czernis, Sr. of Vero Beach; daughter, Peggy Johnson of Vero Beach; grandchildren, Thomas, Juliette, Joey, Johnny, Sean, Stephanie, Ashley, Raymond Jr., Roxanne, Larry, Brandon and Michael and 6 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond S. Czernis; son, Peter Czernis and daughter, MaryAnne Holsomback. At the request of the family, a private service will be held at a later date.
