COMMENTARY
Editor’s Note: Vero Beach resident Rosemarie Wilson wrote a letter to the editor of the Press Journal accusing Vero Beach City Councilman Jay Kramer of “disrespectful” behavior during a council meeting. Wilson’s letter was posted yesterday on TCPalm.com. Not all that long ago, Wilson, a strong supporter of the sale of Vero Electric, joined Charlie Wilson and others in an laugh-out-loud moment during a council meeting in which they seemed not to agree with a statement made by Councilman Richard Winger.
Speaking of “disrespectful,” Wilson would likely not welcome a public discussion about a comment she reportedly made to Wanda Scott following the Nov. 8 council meeting.
Wilson’s letter has drawn 15 comments, including the following: “Mr Kramer is an honorable, committed and most effective public servant. If he as the letter writer asserted snickered at the absurd unrealistic assurances from the City’s Transactional Attorneys, and sneered while the Mayor and Vice Mayor and Mayor disgraced our City, I for one respect his forbearance in not responding. Even when while attending his father’s funeral the Chairman of the Utilities Commission personally castigated him addressing an empty chair. Mr Kramer is a class act, and deserves better than the slings and arrows from zany zealots and shrill pontificating posters.”
The following is the text of Wilson’s letter to the Press Journal.
Rosemarie B. Wilson, Vero Beach Letter:
Kramer’s behavior in council meetings is disrespectful
To witness Vero Beach City Councilman Jay Kramer snicker and sneer repeatedly during council meetings is disconcerting.
Kramer’s attempts with (sour grapes) Lynne Larkin to sabotage ongoing negotiations in the sale of the electric utility are deplorable. His failure to represent the majority of the citizens in the referendum is disgraceful. Is this man qualified to be in office? Can he be even more damaging to the citizenry, with his lack of financial acumen and negativity?
Perhaps a boycott by the ratepayers of the electric utility for a day? Turn off your electric and go shopping outside the city (in the county). Whoa, 20,000 people acting to reduce electric and tax revenue to the city. It’s one ploy worth considering.
Get local government out of competing with free enterprise. Shame on Kramer.

She has a right to her opinion – which we’ve been aware of long before this letter. There’s no point in voicing my opinion, other than saying it isn’t sabotage any of us is after but survival AFTER the sale. And I really like her idea of “reducing power usage”. That may be difficult given all the amenities so many people enjoy – home pool, sauna, overused sprinkler system for that lush lawn look, high ceilings and a long list of home appliances of all description. I never liked the idea of cutting off ones nose to spite the face…..and that is what I am reading. We haven’t slowed down the sale. All we can do is sit back and wait until the high-priced lawyers, FPL Executives, and other entities come to a decision…..one way or the other….at their own speed. What would the lady have us do?
Where does Mrs Rosemarie B Wilson live? Does she live in the city or county? If she does not live in the city her opinion of Jay Kramer means nothing. Actually, anything she says means nothing.
