E. Stanley Carter, 74, a man of love, prayer, vision, patience, purpose, humility, authenticity, wit, honed skills and wisdom aptly describes Stan Carter, who changed his address from earth to Heaven, Tues. A.M., Dec. 18, 2013. His life was shaped by his intimate relationship with Jesus, by being a native of Indian River County & by his rich lineage. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, the R.D. Carters who were Indian River Pioneers; his father, Ed who was an engineer, surveyor & both dairy & citrus farmer in Indian River Co; his mother “Shug” Carter, sister, Millie Bunnell & brother, Robert Carter. Stan was also shaped by his plethora of friends throughout the world and his fellow growers in the Citrus Industry, by his affinity for books, science, golf, football, the ocean & the History Channel, by his inquiring mind and receptive heart, by his appreciation for music and rhythm, by his artistic abilities, by his enjoyment of travel (particularly when he was selected to join FL. House Rep. Ralph Poppell and others who led a citrus delegation to Argentina in 2007 re: windbreaks); by his fondness of Lighthouses & his Clown collection, by his beloved Class of ’57 at Vero Beach High, by his love for the earth & the peoples & creatures therein (especially birds, butterflies, squirrels, chipmunks, flowers and citrus trees), by a strong work ethic, generosity of spirit & joie de vivre and by a family who loves & survives him: wife, Joyce Carole; son, Matthew Carter; granddaughters, Samantha & Hope Marie Carter; brother Marvin Carter & wife, Ruth; sister Joye Brooks & husband, Dennis.  He attended the University of Florida and Florida Southern College where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Stan was a citrus farmer at his core and often said: “I am not an environmental activist; I am an active environmentalist.” Stan was honored to serve these past 23 years as the Grove Division Manager for McArthur Farms, Inc. a renowned company to whom is owed deepest thanks for walking with Stan especially during his recent health battle. Stan was a Bridge, a Rock & a Peacemaker in this earth order, even in the citrus industry to which he was 100% devoted. He was deeply identified with a Christian global organization, Camps Farthest Out (CFO) where he served many years in an administrative capacity and was also a beloved, well-respected CFO speaker throughout the United States and Canada.  Stan was also a former Junior Warden at Gloria Dei Episcopal Church in Cocoa, FL.  Amongst his many achievements, he was a past president of the Vero Beach Jaycees and was also the FL. State Secretary for the Jaycees; recipient of the Citrus Achiever Award conferred by Florida Grower Magazine and the Conservation Award-St. Lucie Co. NRCS. In 2004, The Florida Dept. of Agriculture honored Stan with the Commissioner’s Ag-Environmental Leadership Award presented by the then Florida State Sec. of Agriculture, Charlie Bronson. Stan served on the Indian River Citrus League Board 2004-2012 (Pres. of the Citrus League Board in 2006; Chairman 2007-2009). In 2005, Gov. Jeb Bush presented Stan with the Council for a Sustainable Florida Environmental Leadership Award. In 2012, he received the “Legend of the River” award. In 2007, Gov. Charlie Crist appointed Stan as a Citrus Commissioner, a position he held until 2011. He was a member of the Florida Production Managers Assoc., Florida Citrus Mutual and the Florida Farm Bureau; was on the Advisory Board of the St. Lucie Co. Extension Service & on the Advisory Board of IFAS Research Center – St. Lucie Co.; was Chairman of the Indian River Citrus Best Management Practices (BMPS) Implementation Committee at which time Stan developed the template for BMPS which the Florida Dept. of Agriculture now follows statewide. Many Ag crops and other kinds of businesses are also using a form of BMPS that Stan developed which was the first BMPS program that the state of FL and the Univ. of FL recognized in Ag. A debt of gratitude is owed to the wonderful, dedicated medical teams, to the VNA Nurses (especially, Kathy) to Vero Radiology and the capable, caring physicians who worked diligently to preserve Stan’s life: Doctors Brown (Nurses Kristi & Shonni); DeoNarine (Nurse Jennie), Lasswell, Maholtz, Perry, Petersen, Price & Staff and Dr. Weeks and superb oncology nurses, Lucy, Renee and Susie. Indian River Co. is blessed to have access to the best medical care the world has to offer. Stan Carter’s funeral service will be on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, 11:00 AM at Christ Church (behind Outback on U.S. 1, Vero Beach). Officiants will be Bishop John Miller, Rector & Pastor of Christ Anglican Church and Rev. Gene Tyson, United Methodist preacher in North Carolina and cousin of Stan’s wife.  Funeral arrangements have been made through Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach.  As Stan fought the good fight to live & live productively, when asked: “how ya’ doin’, Bro?” , Stan would inevitably reply: “All is well in Camelot”! So today, as Stan explores his new home, we can join him in this proclamation, “All is Well in Camelot”, knowing that in a few days, he will have the merriest Christmas ever as he feasts one on one with the Newborn King!  We give thanks for the life and times of a great, contemplative, gentile man with a Servant’s Heart, Everett Stanley Carter who left us a rich legacy. Kerry Nicole Marker, 39, of Lehigh Acres, Florida, passed on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at her residence.  She was born March 8, 1974 in Denver, Colorado.  Kerry is survived by her husband, Harry Marker of Lehigh Acres; 2 sons, Justin and Jordan Marker of Lehigh Acres; father and step-mother, Joe and Beth Zurenko of Tampa, FL; 2 sisters, Annie Jaime of Weston, FL and Kristi Zurenko of Vero Beach; and 1 brother, Joe Zurenko of Chicago, IL. She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Jenna Marker and mother, Mari Zeran. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM at the Thomas S.
