Argument leads to aggravated assault, search warrant, and arrest.

SHERIFF’S OFFICE MEDIA RELEASE

Mace pic 1On January 14, 2014, at approximately 10PM, deputies with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with detectives from the Multi Agency Criminal Enforcement (MACE) Unit served a search warrant at 3835 44th Place after a disturbance led deputies to a bag of marijuana in the residence.

The disturbance stemmed from a verbal argument in which Indian River County resident Cortez Wright (25) reportedly pointed a firearm at two females at a residence near the 4000 block of 38th Avenue. He also took one of the victim’s cell phone.

When deputies attempted to locate Wright, there was marijuana visible from the opened doorway of the residence he was believed to occupy. This led to MACE detectives being called and the search warrant being served. Investigators located two firearms, approximately 196 grams of methylone (aka “Molly”), 271 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia including a digital scale and small plastic bags, and a black ski mask.

Wright was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and grand theft. He is being held at the Indian River County Jail on $25,000 bond. The investigation into the firearms and drugs, including Wright’s involvement if any, is continuing.
