Mariette (Sis) Walker Ladd, 87, of Greenwich, Ct. and Vero Beach, Fl. passed away peacefully on January 16, 2014. Sis was born on May 20, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio to Mariette Chandler Walker and Willard Foster Walker. She was predeceased by her adored brother, Willard Foster Walker, Jr. and beautiful granddaughter, Emily Prescott Rogers. Sis attended the Laurel School in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from The Madeira School in McLean, Virginia and Briarcliff College in New York. Sis is survived by her loving husband, Delano Wood Ladd, Jr., of 64 years. Sis and Del met in Madison, Ct. where Del took advantage of Sis’s love for sailing to propose while out on a boat on the Long Island Sound. They and their family continued to summer in Madison for many decades to come. They began their married life in Rye, New York where they raised their family of six children. Sis is survived by her four daughters, Cynthia Ladd of Guilford, Ct, Marcy Champagne (Chip) of Winnetka, Il, Susan Rogers (William) of Dover, Ma., Margot Brady (Sean) of Riverside, Ct. And two sons, Delano W. Ladd, lll (Nancy) of Rye, N.Y. and Willard F. W. Ladd (Katarina) of Riverside, Ct. Sis is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Sis was a skilled business woman and consummate volunteer. She ran a glue factory in Brooklyn, NY during the war and was on the governing board of her family’s company, The Cleveland Container Company. Sis was very active in fundraising activities for the United Hospital in Rye, NY. She held numerous positions in the Rye Twig organization including Program Chair for the Westchester Golf Classic ( then known as the Thunderbird Classic) and Vice-Chairman of the first May Fair, a fundraising event at Playland Amusement Park in Rye, NY. She also served in numerous capacities on her children’s schools auxiliary boards. Her love for gardening ranged from mowing lawns, cultivating vegetable gardens and clipping hedges with a corn cob pipe in her mouth, to finer horticulture and flower arranging which she pursued as a member of Rye Garden Club and Hortulus of Greenwich. Sis was an accomplished athlete. Her name is immortalized on club walls in Rye and Madison for her numerous championships in tennis and paddle tennis. She was a accomplished sailor. Sis and her family sailed every summer along the coasts of Ct., Ma., and Maine, but her true love was her keeled sloop – the Zip. Sis was an avid skier; she was thrilled when she turned 65 and could ski for free. She was a skilled marksman and swimmer. She loved to swim especially when accompanied by her grandchildren. No water was too cold for her. Sis was one of a kind. She was a barrel of fun. She was devoted to her family and friends. She relished every minute of her never dull life, and lit up the room with her presence and charisma. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at The Community Church of Vero Beach Chapel in Vero Beach Florida. There will also be a celebration of Sis’s life April 5, 2014 in Greenwich, Ct. Doris Catherine Simpson, 84, of Vero Beach, died Thursday, January 16, 2014 at VNA Hospice House. She was born October 31, 1929 in New York City, New York and had been a seasonal resident of Vero Beach from 1981-1987, moving permanently in 1987 from Massapequa, Long Island, New York. Mrs. Simpson had worked at a computer company as an inventory control specialist. She attended and was married at Central Presbyterian Church, New York City. Mrs. Simpson is survived by her husband of 64 years, Walter R. Simpson, Sr.; two sons, Walter R. Simpson, Jr. of Vero Beach and James S. Simpson of Sebastian; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Simpson was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Anderson and grandson, Christopher Simpson.
