MEDIA RELEASE

Ocean Research and Conservations Association, the Treasure Coast-based research institute for protecting and restoring our aquatic ecosystems and the species they maintain, has arranged for Astronaut Joe Acaba to appear on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014 at 7 PM.
Acaba is an educator, hydrogeologist, and NASA astronaut. He completed his training in February 2006 and was assigned to STS-119, which flew from March 15 to March 28, 2009 to deliver the final set of solar arrays to the International Space Station. Acaba served as a Flight Engineer aboard the International Space Station from May 17 to September 17, 2012.
Acba will talk about his experience in space and how the perspectives he discovered there changed his ideas about living on Earth.
This event is a benefit for ORCA, the Ocean Research and Conservation Association, a non-profit organization based on the Treasure Coast which has been instrumental in focusing attention on the plight of the Indian River Lagoon.
Tickets for Acaba’s presentation are $35 in advance / $40 at the door. Or you can purchase tickets to the ORCA’s entire three-part Planet and Oceans lecture series (including National Geographic photographer Carlton Ward Jr. and undersea researcher Dr. Edie Widder) for just $75.
