COMMENTARY
MARK SCHUMANN

Charlie Wilson, demonstrating what appears to be an ever-increasing disconnection with reality, went on radio this morning claiming Inside Vero has announced it will cease publication.
“I do have sad news. The sad news is that Inside Vero has announced they are going to cease their print publication and only send it to people who ask for it, which is a couple of hundred people, which is probably less than their minimum press run. I think they are going to continue their blog, at least for the moment, but they have announced they are going to cease their overall distribution of their newspaper,” Wilson said, as he again misinformed WTTB’s listeners this week.
As is the case with much of what rolls of his silver tongue, none of what Wilson claimed is true. Inside Vero is not ceasing publication. Far from it.
Inside Vero’s mid-month edition is and will continue to be delivered to 19,000 homes on the barrier island and the mainland, with an additional 3,000 copies distributed through stores, offices, restaurants and public buildings in and around Vero Beach. Beginning in early February, Inside Vero will also be available in Publix stores.
The weekly edition of Inside Vero, launched January 2, is currently being delivered to 9,000 homes in the central beach and on the mainland, with an additional 3,000 copies distributed through 150 locations throughout the city. As with the mid-month issue, the weekly edition will also soon be available in Publix stores.
Through February and March, we will be inviting those receiving the weekly edition of Inside Vero to let us know if they would like to continue receiving the newspaper. Since we haven’t yet invited our readers to request a free subscription, Wilson has no way of legitimately coming up with a number, as he did this morning on WTTB. About this, Wilson cannot simply be misinformed.
As I wrote in a column posted this past Sunday, “Beginning Feb. 6, we will publish a telephone number and a web address where those who want to continue receiving the weekly print edition Inside Vero can register for a free subscription…Within our designated circulation area, we are committed to continue offering free delivery of Inside Vero to those who want to receive it. Any other approach would be poor stewardship of our resources.” (See Stewarding Our Resources)

Only Charlie could turn a good thing into a “bad” thing. I hope there aren’t too many ignorant people around here who would actually believe his “stuff”.
I have yet to hear from anyone questioning me about Wilson’s outlandish comments made on WTTB this morning. I’m left wondering how many people are actually listening to Bob Soos’ morning magazine program. Station manager, Jim Davis, continues to allow Soos to invite Wilson on, with the predictable consequence that the station’s listeners are regularly misinformed. Davis, I suspect, believes the controversy builds listenership. Davis knows his business better than I, but it seems to me he is more or less prostituting himself and the station. Keep in mind that Davis, for good reason, dismissed Wilson as WTTB’s news director a number of year ago.
Schumann, Do you stay up nights conjuring up ideas to slam Charlie Wilson EVERY DAY?
You are obviously obsessed by the man.
Rosemarie, I do not have to go looking for ways to point out that Charlie Wilson has at best a tenuous relationship with the truth. He serves up numerous examples each week on Bob Soos’ incredibly poor excuse for an on-air “news magazine.” When Wilson states as fact completely inaccurate information, such as his bizarre claim that Inside Vero is “ceasing publication,” I have little choice but to set the record straight.
If WTTB station manager Jim Davis is going to continue to allow Soos to give Wilson access to public airwaves for the purpose of misinforming the public, we are going to set the record straight – as often as necessary. Actually, the time may have come to call this to attention of federal regulators at the FCC. They take seriously such breaches of the public trust.
Based on an email I received from Davis this morning, it now appears Wilson wants to hid behind a claim that he was only expressing his personal opinion. Not so. The completely false statements Wilson made on WTTB yesterday morning regarding Inside Vero he presented as fact, not as his personal opinion.
I have to ask: Is there any relationship between Rosemarie Wilson and Charlie Wilson other than last name?
I jokingly called Rosemarie Wilson and Charlie Wilson fraternal twins on one of my blogs on Bea-isms but Jim, FYI, they are not related. But, if you knew the personalities of both of them you would think they are related because they are both cut from the same mold. And, that mold is getting very moldy in this town and Mark Schumann is correct to call them out when it is necessary.
And, yes Mark, you are correct. On the radio Charlie Wilson said, “i have some good news….Mark Schumann is ceasing publication” I heard him say that and I perked up. He also made other false accusations about a school board member on the same radio show. I think I just gave up about that time and did not have the patience to listen to the rest of his baloney.
