Most community newspapers devote their editorial pages to addressing issues of importance to the communities they.  The editors of Vero Beach 32963 are a different breed, often using their “Insight Editorial” space to attack their competitors. This week was a case in point.  In an “editorial” titled, “Making sense of the internet numbers game,” the editors of the island weekly suggested the daily average number of unique visitors to InsideVero.com is just 250, when in fact InsideVero.com’s readership is more than twice that number.  Yesterday alone, 706 visitors to the site registered 2,231 page views.

The island weekly claimed readership for its sister online publication, VeroNews.com, of some 55,407 unique visitors in January.  Well, if that is true, more power to them. They are, after all, publishing a five-year-old website serving the entire county.  Their site features many stories about what is happening in Fellsmere and Sebastian River Area, just as TCPalm.com devotes much of its effort to covering stories of little if any importance to Vero Beach readers. In comparison, InsideVero.com has been online just one year, offering focused coverage on the Vero Beach area.

Below is a report of InsideVero.com’s daily readership for the past two weeks, with average weekday unique visitors of 534, and with a daily average on the weekends of 358.  Over the course of January, 7,761 different readers came to the site, viewing an average of 5.7 stories each.

Inside Vero’s mid-month print edition has a circulation of 22,000, including 11,000 direct mailed to every address on the barrier island.  The remaining print issues each month have a circulation of 12,000 reaching the central mainland, and as far west as the Indian River Aerodrome off of 82nd Avenue.
