Obituaries: February 25, 2014

DOROTHY MARY DANIELS, 74, died February 17, 2014 at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach. 

Mrs. Daniels was born in Boston, MA and has been a winter resident of Vero Beach since 2002 and moved permanatly to Vero Beach 4 years ago from Continental, OH. 

She was a graduate of Arch Bishop Williams High School, Braintree, MA. 

Mrs. Daniels was member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach, FL. 

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, William M. Daniels of Vero Beach; sons, Mark Daniels of Oakwood, OH and William A. Daniels of Vanwert, OH; daughter, Maureen Daniels of Salem, MA; brother, George Francisco of Weymouth, MA; and sister-in-law, Mary Smith of Lake Bay, WA. 

Mrs. Daniels was preceded in death by her son, Paul Robert Daniels and grandson, Brandon Daniels. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM , Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach. Interment will follow in Hull Cemetery, Hull, MA. http://www.strunkfuneralhome.com (2/24/14)

EDITY FRANCES PIPPIN, 89, died February 22, 2014 at her home in Vero Beach. 

Edith was born in Winter Beach, FL and has been a life time resident of Indian River County. 

She attended elementary school in Winter Beach was a graduate of Vero Beach High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, FL. 

Edith worked for Indian River Farms Drainage District for over 20 years before her retirement. 

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Winter Beach, Winter Beach, FL. 

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Clark Pippin of Vero Beach; sister, Ruby McCully of Vero Beach and many nieces and nephews. 

Edith was preceded in death by her sisters, Lilly Mae Waddell, Elizabeth Jackson and Anna Belle Stansel and brothers, Franklin Hamilton, Marion Hamilton, Worth Hamilton and Alfred Hamilton. 

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 28, 2014 at Strunk Funeral Home.

Scent, RayRAYMOND JOHANSON SCENT, 86, of Vero Beach, Florida, died Monday, February 24, 2014 at his residence. 

He was born June 23, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois and had been a resident of Vero Beach since 1936. 

Ray retired after 29 years in the US Navy as a Lt. Commander serving in WW II, The Korean and Vietnam Wars. 

He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Vero Beach, he served as Chaplain for the Indian River Medical Center for 11 years, and he was one of the Founding Fathers of the Indian River Habitat for Humanity. Ray was active in Community Affairs and introduced the First Real Estate Franchise Office to Vero Beach. 

He is survived by his son, Robert M. Scent of Ledyard, CT; 2 daughters, Kathy S. Murphy of Winter Park, FL and Mary Ann Cantwell of Clermont, FL as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, June, son, Steven and grandson John Murphy. 

At the request of the family a memorial service will be held at a later date.
