Hunt, RoyROY HUNT, 77, passed through this life unto the next on March 8, 2014. He was predeceased by his father Halsey in Aug, 2013 (94) and mother Grace in 2007 (86). Roy is survived by his wife of 43 years Lorraine (nee Dumler), daughter Keri Elwell (and husband Brian) of Vero Beach, and son Ryan (and wife Gloria) of Pompton Plains , NJ, his brothers Halsey & wife Joanne(Pompton Plains, NJ), Gary & wife Eileen(Bayville, NJ) & Jeffrey & wife Marie(Pompton Plains, NJ), six grandchildren, & 9 nieces & nephews.

Roy grew up in Pompton Lakes, NJ. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and an Acolyte at Christ Church, graduating from Pompton Lakes High School in 1964. He was an accomplished athlete, playing in the Little League World Series in Williamsport Pa. When he reached High School he excelled in football and track(as team captain). He still holds the Javelin record (185’3”) at PLHS he set in 1963, 51 years ago. As a standout running back (#17) for the legendary coach Benson, with sweetheart Lorrraine as his cheerleader, he earned a football scholarship to Furman U., that was cut short by a knee injury (at the hands of Miami Dolphin Jim Kiick). Roy & Lorraine were also king & queen of their Junior Prom. Roy attended Bloomfield College majoring in Psychology where he was a proud member of Delta Phi Chi fraternity.

Roy then decided to serve his country, enlisting in the Navy and quickly rising to the rank of Active Chief Petty Officer. After leaving the Navy, he started working in his lifelong career, textile manufacturing sales initially with Manhattan Shirt Company, then Benham & Deisher, the Miller Group, & Cressona Knit Mills as Chairman & CEO of the Hunt Group. He manufactured and printed T shirts for Disney, Ocean Pacific, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and many other rock groups as well as the entire Black Dog T shirt program from Marthas Vineyard. Roy added his professionalism to everything he did and that drive fueled his tremendous success in business.

While he lived in Pompton Plains & summered for many years in Toms River NJ, he loved Florida and 20 years ago bought a beautiful home on the Indian River (intracoastal) where he fished every evening. He had a lot of loves….his 32 Roadster, his 62 Corvette, his other cars, boats etc, but none more important than his 6th grade love, Lorraine whom he managed to convince to become his wife.

A memorial gathering and life celebration will be held March 15 at 2pm at his family home in Seagrove West and in New Jersey in the spring. Please consider a gift to the University of Miami Brain Tumor Initiative in memory of Roy.
