Dr. Robert Lupton, author of the book Toxic Charity, gave a luncheon lecture to 200 attendees at the first annual Community Leaders luncheon presented by Hale Groves and the Harvest Outreach Center.The theme of his talk was how charitable practices intended to aid the poor can lead to unintended consequences if not designed to empower them as well. After his talk, Lupton held a two-hour workshop on implementing principals of empowering service at the agency level.
