Garden Club of Indian River County Flower Show: 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. The flower show will be held at the “Villa Festiva”, a historic home, the first to be built on the ocean in the Old Riomar section of Vero Beach. In 1926, Kitty and Elliot Phillips bought a large lot on the ocean next to the Riomar Beach Club, and leading Palm Beach Architect Howard Major designed their home. Major much preferred the British-colonial architecture of Nassau, but Mr. and Mrs. Phillips preferred the Spanish style. The home is built as a classic Castilian country home characterized by two enclosed courtyards. This is a private residence, and the flower show will allow you a rare opportunity to see the house. Kitty Phillips was the daughter of Winchester and Florence Fitch. Mrs. Fitch founded the Vero Beach Garden Club (now the Garden Club of Indian River County) in her Riomar house “Orchid Oaks” in 1928. There is no parking at the house. There will be no handicapped parking around the house, so you are asked to park in the parking lot of the Transoceanic Building at the corner of A1A and 17th street. There will be buses to take you to the house and return you to your car when you are finished viewing the flower show. The house is not wheelchair accessible. Call 567-4602. The Garden Club is located at 2526 17th Avenue, Vero Beach. http://www.gardenclubofirc.org
