DouglasMICHAEL DOUGLAS, 58, died April 19, 2014 at Sebastian River Medical Center in Sebastian. He was born in Maquoketa, Iowa and lived in Micco coming from Mineral Point, Wisconsin in 1987. Mr. Douglas was a dairy farmer in Wisconsin prior to moving to Florida. He was owner of River Grove Enterprise Construction, Inc. and a partner in River Grove Enterprises, Inc., River Grove Mobile Home Village, Micco Bay Carwash and Barefoot Mini-Storage. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, working with his sons, was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Douglas; sons, Ryan Douglas (Patricia) and Duke Douglas all of Micco; mother, Bonnie Elizabeth Douglas; grandchildren, Madeline, Connor, Sabastien and Beau; sisters, Kathy Clasen of Malabar and Connie Douglas-Linnell and brother, Steven Douglas, both of Grant/Valkaria. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mandy Douglas and father, Charles (Bud) Douglas. A visitation will be held 12:00 to 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 26, 2014 with services at 2:00 PM at Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian, FL. GalloJOSEPHINE MARIA GALLO passed away peacefully in Vero Beach, Florida surrounded by the love of her family, on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 at the age of 97. Josephine served as a counselor at Great Neck South High School in New York for over 31 years after starting her career in 1937 at the Refined Macaroni Company, her father’s pasta manufacturing plant in Brooklyn. She was dedicated to important causes, volunteering for the March of Dimes as a young lady. Her efforts resulted in First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt recognizing her leadership in helping to stamp out polio. She also held leadership positions at the Democratic Women’s Club of Indian River County. Josephine was predeceased by her husband Albert Gallo, a New York City Police Officer and Mathematics teacher, who she married in 1939 at Saint John’s Church in Brooklyn. She left behind her children, Diane DeFrancisci and late husband Leonard of Vero Beach, Florida, Pamela Rossano and husband Thomas of Lincroft, New Jersey, and Albert and wife Marianne of Wanamassa, New Jersey; and 10 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Her sister Lillian and husband Joseph Signorelli live in Boca Raton, Florida. She was predeceased by four sisters, Connie, Rose, Gloria, and Aida, and a brother Joseph. Born in Brooklyn, New York on January 01, 1917 to Gaspare and Angela (nee Zuaro) Santoro, Josephine lived in Manhasset, New York for 49 years. She initially moved to Florida in 1997 and to Vero Beach in 2002. Josephine graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in 1936. While in High School, she received the Roosevelt Memorial Association Founders Medal in recognition of the history award, becoming the first female to receive this prestigious honor. She earned an AA from Nassau Community College, and a BA and MA in High School Counselor Education from C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. A lady who gained the highest respect by all who knew her, Josephine was well known for her grace, compassion and strength. She possessed an endless passion for her family and dedication to the promotion of education and social issues. She also loved history. The wake will be Thursday, April 24 from 4-9 PM at John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank, New Jersey and a Mass will be held Friday, 10 AM at Saint Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, 50 Hurley’s Lane, Lincroft, New Jersey. NugentREVEREND MONSIGNOR IRVINE NUGENT, 85, born to Francis and Teresa (Maguire) Nugent, in Omaha, County Tyrone, North Ireland, U.K. Ordained a Priest June 6, 1954 in Ireland and came to Florida that same year, a priest of the Diocese of St. Augustine. He served in the Dioceses of St. Augustine, Orlando and Palm Beach for 60 years. He served the faithful, of St. Helen’s and Vero Beach, for 38 years, 23 years as Pastor and as Pastor Emeritus, assisting for 15 years in retirement. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. M.E. (Betty) Sweeney and Nieces and Nephews in the U.S and Ireland. The Celebration of his Life will begin on Monday April 28th at 12Noon with his body being received at St. Helen Church, he will lie in repose with a Parish Mass celebrated at 6:00PM. On Tuesday April 29th there will be a Parish Mass at 12Noon and he will lie in repose until a Vigil Service at 7:00PM. On Wednesday April 30th at 11:00AM, the Most Reverend Gerald M. Barbarito, Bishop of Palm Beach, will be the Main Celebrant of a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery, in Vero Beach. SansoneJANETTE SANSONE, 91, of Vero Beach, passed away on Easter Sunday after a long illness. She leaves behind her husband, Ralph Sansone whom she was married to for 64 years, with the 65th anniversary coming September 4th, 2014. She also leaves behind one son, Perry Anthony, of Ridgefield, CT who is married to Roseann Knight Sansone and their 3 children, Caroline, Benjamin and Allison. She also leaves behind cousins in Vero Beach, Edward and Linda Scott and Frank and Gaye Formica and their respective families. Also, a nephew and niece Leonard Morganelli and Andrea Morganelli of Mooresville, NC and many other cousins in New Jersey and friends throughout the entire east coast. Jeanette graduated from Pratt University in NY and received her master’s degree from Columbia University. She worked during college at the flagship Macy’s store in Herald Square and taught in the Jersey City School system until 1962. They moved to Cocoa, FL as Ralph pursued a career with NASA at Cape Kennedy. They lived in Cocoa until 1970 then moved to Charlotte, NC. In North Carolina she taught school for several more years and helped start the Christopher Columbus Club of the Carolina’s, that is still going strong today. After living in Charlotte for 15 years, they moved back to New Jersey, living in Point Pleasant Beach until they tired of the winters and they decided to move back to Florida. Based on relatives’ recommendations they chose Vero Beach, where she lived very happily for the last 9 years. Her faith was strong and our memories of her are stronger. She lived with cancer for 13 plus years yet she never let it define her. She defined cancer. Her “can do” attitude, her smile, her positive thoughts and refreshing outlook have given us all inspiration. We will always remember her for her sense of humor, her grace and dignity!  The family will receive friends 5-7 PM, Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at the Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach with a Prayer Service at 6 PM at the funeral Home officiated by Deacon Hoch of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach. ScheuJEANNE M. SCHEU, 92, of Vero Beach, Florida quietly slipped away at Hospice House on Saturday, April 19, 2014. She was born on November 20, 1921 in Cadiz, Ohio to Herbert Emanuel Mallernee and Frances Stringer Mallernee. Jeanne was an amazing woman who possessed a tremendous intellect. It was often said that she could run a small country single-handedly. Jeanne was a successful business woman who, for twenty-five years, co-owned and operated a coal brokerage company in Ohio with her first husband, Bill Beynon. She was also a talented Interior Designer and practiced in Akron for several years. She married Lester Scheu in 1974 and they moved to Palm Coast where they founded a company that sold machines for cleaning industrial vehicles. They moved to Vero Beach in 1986 and sold real estate with Jeanne’s family’s company, Laurel Agency, until their retirement in 1995. Jeanne was a beautiful woman who modeled for many years. She loved music, especially the big band era, and was a fabulous dancer. In her younger years people would clear the dance floor just to watch her. She was wonderfully competitive and delighted in winning at golf and cards and crossword puzzles in her younger years and at Rummikub and jigsaw puzzles in recent years. She had a quick wit and a sparkle in her eye. She was a strong willed woman and was affectionately referred to as “Queenie” because she truly was the Queen of our family. She loved her family fiercely and adored her husband, Lester. Jeanne was a devout Christian who cherished Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a past member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church of Palm Coast, Fl, where she served as Assistant Chair of the Decorating Committee for their new church. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach. She leaves her loving husband Lester, three daughters and four stepsons and their families: Daughter Shari Lee Beynon, granddaughter Heidi Heidenescher, great-grandchildren Lindsey (Chris) Parks, Johanna and Zachary Heidenescher, granddaughter Gretchen (Mike) McMinn and great-granddaughters Makayla and MacKenzie, granddaughter Kristen McMinn and great-grandchildren Evan and Brittany McMinn and great-great-granddaughter Alavee. Daughter Julie (Bob) Longtin, grandson Scott (Tracy) Snyder and great-grandchildren D.J. and Kaleigh. Daughter Debb (Peter) Robinson, grandson Peter (Tracey), great-grandchildren Jack and Katie and a new great-granddaughter on the way, grandson Joseph (Mandy), and great-grandson Joseph 6. Step-son Dick (Lynn) Scheu, granddaughter Lindsey, grandson Rickii and great-grandchildren Desiree and Devin. Step-son Eric (Lisa) Scheu, and grandchildren Mahara and Franky. Step-son Ken (Linda) Scheu, and granddaughter Kelly Scheu, granddaughter Kacey (Dave) Brindle, granddaughter Lory (Mario) Pellicana, great-grandchildren Alex, Andrea and Julianna. Step-son Jim Scheu and fiancée Linda. She also leaves brother-in-law Hank Harley and nephews David, Daniel and Peter Harley and their families, nephews Tom, Bill and Bob Schuck and their families, and nephew Jack Carnes and his family. Jeanne was pre-deceased by her parents, Herbert and Frances Mallernee, sister Lucille Harley and grandson David John Snyder. VannDR. ENOCH JAMES VANN passed away peacefully on April 15, 2014 at the age of 88. He was born on July 22, 1925, in Boston, GA, to Sara Perry and Enoch James Vann, Sr.  He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Tulane University and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Tennessee. It was there that he met his loving wife, Sarah Jayne Turner. Immediately following his residency in Memphis at John Gaston Hospital, he joined the United States Navy and served overseas as a flight surgeon during the Korean War. His passion for medicine and dedication to the art of healing led him to Vero Beach, FL in 1954, where he joined the practice of Dr. E.B. Hardee. His most fulfilling achievement during his 40 year career was the collaboration with Doctors William White and Donald Gold in the creation of The Doctors’ Clinic. Dr. Vann is survived by Jayne, his wife of 65 years; his son, Enoch James Vann III, daughters, Beth Smith, Jan Patrick, Valerie Vann-Oettl, Susie Wallace, and Dede Marine; his cousins; Polly Ingram of Atlanta, GA, Martha Wright of Daytona Beach, FL, Louie Perry and Frank Perry of Moultrie, GA, Dr. Joel Futral of Cornville, AZ, Dr. Ashley Futral of Winchester, VA, and Dr. Perry Ann Almquist of Charlotte, NC. During his 21 years of retirement he thoroughly enjoyed his 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. His wife and children will forever remember him as a man utterly devoted to his family and to the service of others. A celebration of his life will be held at First United Methodist Church, 1750 20th St. on Saturday, May 10th at 10 AM.
