Obituaries: April 29, 2014

CYNTHIA BAUER ANDERSON was born in Hartford, Conn., on February 3, 1914. She lived in West Harford until moving to Vero Beach in 1980. Cynthia graduated from Buckley High School and Miss Marchant’s Secretarial School in Hartford. She passed on at Indian River Estates, Vero Beach, FL., on April 27, 2014. In 1942, Cynthia married J. Wilbur Bauer and had their son, Eric Vanderbeck Bauer. Eric lived in Ft. Pierce, FL. He died March 2011. Cynthia’s husband Wilbur predeceased her in 1991.

Cynthia was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach and was active in the Indian River Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed her relationship with the church and the hospital. In April 2005 she was awarded a 20-year service pin by the IRMH Auxiliary.

In 1995, Cynthia married Allan G. Anderson and lived in Vero Beach. Her only sister, Mrs. Jean Stanley of North Falmouth, Mass., is now deceased.

Cynthia was a longtime season ticket holder to the L.A. Dodgers sprint training games. She enjoyed home runs, by either team. Cynthia had a pleasant and positive attitude and loved to sing. When in high school, she and her sister sang duets in church. She also enjoyed singing in the Golden Notes, a chorale group at Indian River Estates.

STEWARTWILLIAM P. STEWART, SR. passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born June 18, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of William Steele and Sarah Pope Stewart of Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Bill is the great-grandnephew of Alfred Atmore Pope of “Hill-Stead” in Farmington, Connecticut. Bill grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio and attended The Hawken School in Lyndhurst, Ohio. Upon graduation from high school, he attended The Ohio State University in Columbus. He also attended banking schools at Northwestern University and The University of Florida. He is a Life Member of The Ohio State University Alumni Association. Bill began a long and successful banking career in 1967 in Richmond, Virginia. In 1969, he moved to West Palm Beach, Florida continuing his banking career. In 1980, he moved to Vero Beach to head the trust department at Florida National Bank. He retired in 2001 as First Vice President, Private Client Services of Sun Trust Bank in Vero Beach. During his banking career, Bill served as President of The Florida Bankers Association, Trust Division in 1991-92 and in 2002 he was voted into The Florida Bankers Association Trust Bankers Hall of Fame. Bill was also very active for 18 years with The Florida Bar and Florida Bankers Annual Liaison Conference by serving on its steering committee and in 1985 was awarded a special commendation by both professions acknowledging his dedication to the quality of both professions.

In the early and mid 1980’s, Bill was involved in various community functions in Vero Beach. He served for several years on the Riverside Theater Trust Board and The Association for Retarded Citizens board. He was also active in The Vero-Treasure Coast Kiwanis Club. He and Barbara are currently members of Save the Chimps, Ft. Pierce, The Heritage Foundation of Indian River County, and The Humane Society of Indian River. Bill was a member of the former Riomar Bay Yacht Club in Vero Beach. Bill has always been active in the Republican Party. He served on the Indian River Executive Committee and as President of The Republican Men’s Club. In 1985, he received an invitation and attended Ronald Reagan’s second Inauguration and Inaugural Ball in Washington.

Bill has been married for 25 years to Barbara Kay Stewart who survives him. He is also survived by four children, Davd P. of Atlanta, Georgia, William P., Jr. and James of Lake Worth, Florida and Kelly Sarah of Driggs, Idaho and three granddaughters, Quinlan, Lindzy and Hunter. The family would also like to thank Dr. Michaela Scott, Dr. Garrick Kanzler, and oncology nurses Lucy, Renee, and Susie and others. The family will receive friends 12 Noon – 1 PM, Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach with a Life Celebration Service beginning at 1 PM.
