950 days until sales contract with FPL expires

Councilwoman Pilar Turner, Mayor Craig Fletcher, Vice Mayor Tracy Carroll signed a purchase and sale agreement with FPL in February, 2013. Though it seems increasingly clear the deal cannot be closed under the terms of the agreement, unless FPL is willing to back out gracefully, the City's power system may remain in limbo through Dec. 31, 2016.
Rushing headlong toward a dead end in their efforts to sell Vero Electric to Florida Power & Light, Pilar Turner, Craig Fletcher and Tracy Carroll proudly signed a purchase and sale agreement with FPL in February 2013.  It seems increasingly clear the contract, which was endorsed by Vero Beach 32963 and the Press Journal and which does not expire until December 31, 2016, cannot be closed under the terms of the agreement.  Press Journal columnist, Russ Lemmon, was critical of  City Council members Jay Kramer and Richard Winger for not signing the contract. Kramer and Winger knew better, though, than to put their names on a flawed agreement.
