NEWS RELEASE

Randy Heimler, former State Volunteer of the Year for the Florida Department of Education and Educator, is a Candidate for the Indian River County School Board District 4 seat.
Heimler said his experience has taught him that parental involvement is the key to the success of each school. He will be reaching out to all parents, as well as listening to their input.
Heimler holds a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Arizona. He owned and operated Lady Audrey Fashions, a jewelry manufacturer, for over 20 years.
In 1999, he sold his share of the business, and moved to Miami and started to volunteer at Frederick Douglass Elementary School in Overtown. First he started as a reading tutor and then, after seeing this school could not recruit substitute teachers, Heimler earned his substitute teaching certificate. He taught 5th grade math every day for two years and donated every penny of his salary to the school’s PTA, of which he later became the President.
According to Heimler, he realized he needed to reach out and bring the community into this school. After volunteering over 5,000 hours and helping raise the school from a double “F” to a “C”, he was recognized as the State of Florida’s Department of Education’s Volunteer of the Year.
Heimler was named Chairman of The Miami Dade County School District’s Strategic Planning Committee. He led a committee of over 30 prominent leaders and educators from throughout the community.
The City of Miami Police Department honored Heimler as a “Hero” for his dedication to the families of Miami. According to his campaign press release, Heimler paid light bills, water bills as well as providing food and clothing to the less fortunate families with most of the money coming from his own pocket.
Heimler also chaired the Miami Beach Convention Center Advisory Board and served in that position for 4 years.
Locally, Heimler served for 2 years on the Sebastian River Junior Charter High School Board of Directors.
He is married to Cecilia Heimler and they have resided in Vero Beach since 2007. Their 8-year-old son, Joshua, attends second grade at Rosewood Elementary.
Heimler says his 20 year successful business career, combined with his 3,000 hours of classroom teaching experience, and over 5,000 educational volunteer hours, make him an eminently qualified school board candidate.
