Walter Wick’s books transport children and adults alike to a land of enchantment. To create his images the artist selects, stages, and assembles an astounding assortment of objects into playful settings that he cleverly lights and photographs. These images come alive as his readers scour them for responses to puzzles and riddles written about them. Wick is the only important illustrator of original children’s books to use photography as his chosen medium. Since the publication of the I Spy: A Book of Picture Puzzles in 1992, his books have attracted a wide devoted audience. The exhibition full of Wick’s creations and picture puzzle images will thrill his dedicated readers and attract new admirers, including youth and families, who will find the joy of his photographic creations impossible to resist.
