County Commission preliminarily approved 3.3 percent tax increase

The Indian River County Commission yesterday tentatively approved a 3.3 percent tax increase for the coming year.  If the proposed increase is approved at a final budget hearing September 16, county tax payers will see their millage rate for county services go up from $3.26 per thousand in assessed property value to $3.37.

The County’s proposed general fund budget includes an increase of $1.1 million for the Sheriff’s office.  Sheriff Deryl Loar had requested an increase of $2.2 million.
