Turner further embarrasses Vero Beach at FMPA board meeting

Why Mayor Richard Winger, Vice Mayor Jay Kramer and Councilwoman Amelia Graves do not act to prevent Pilar Turner from further embarrassing the City of Vero Beach and further alienating the board members of the Florida Municipal Power Agency is a mystery to me.

At the most recent FMPA board meeting, Turner challenged her fellow board members for not asking any question before approving the agency’s 2014/2015 budget.  “Well, what are your questions, Mrs. Turner,” the chairman allowed.

Turner reportedly asked a couple of questions and then again chided her fellow board members for not having questions of their own.  It was then politely explained to Turner that during five public budget workshops, none of which Turner attended, all the questions that needed to be asked had been asked, and in a public forum.

Turner, a relentlessly harsh critic of the FMPA, is not the person to be representing Vero Beach on the FMPA board.  Electric Utility Director Tom Richards could more effectively represent the City’s interests to the FMPA.

  1. Stupid is as stupid does…..This council is letting the world go by just because they are afraid to make any real decisions. Keeping Turner on as their rep to FMPA will certainly come back to bite them. And, while they are at it…..I would question who gives Zorc the green light to act on behalf of the City at FMPA meetings.

  2. Bea, I haven’t confirmed this with a second source yet, but I was told today Charlie Wilson and Tim Zorc attended the FMPA meeting today, along with Pilar “Bull-In-A-China-Shop” Turner. I wonder if CHARLIE introduces himself as, “Charles Wilson, the next mayor of Vero Beach.”

  3. If you give someone enough rope, they’ll hang themselves. So, rather than start a huge fuss, perhaps the City Council has decided it has better uses for their time and energy than to chastise Mrs. Turner for her ignorance. I guess there is no one to smack Mr. Zorc on the back of his head (like Gibbs does on NCIS) and tell him to get back to work in IRC where he’s much more needed. That he and Charles Wilson prefer to make a spectacle of themselves merely shows they are grandstanding. I suppose some of us should send an email or letter of apology to the members of FMPA for these folks’ behavior. I rather imagine they are smart enough to know most Vero people are not like this.

  4. Look how much good Turner has done for the city with regards to FMPA…NOT.

I suspect Wilson and Zorc will muddy the waters with FMPA too. I would think the three of them are vying for the same PAC money from FPL as what FPL did for the former Councilperson, Tracy Carroll. LOL
