Charlie Wilson continues his quixotic pursuit of the Vero Electric sale to FPL as a guest columnist in the Scripps-FPL* daily — or is he simply pursuing a share of FPL’s financial largesse for himself? In a self-promoting column entitled “New leadership needed to complete sale of utility,” he makes a campaign plea to reclaim the City Council seat he lost in 2009 after one month in office by failing to meet the minimum residency requirements.
He states that he holds three groups responsible for stopping the sale: the City Council, local special interests, FMPA lobbyists, the FMPA, unions, big government liberals, city employees, pretend reporters…now wait, that’s at least eight groups. Well, Charlie never claimed to be a mathematician (or a lawyer by his own admission).
He then compared these groups to World War II’s Tokyo Rose and the FMPA to the Imperial forces of Japan. He promises ultimate victory in a Douglas MacArthur-like claim, “…We will not give up and we will not surrender…”
Apparently, the only way to prevent another world war is to elect him again to City Council.
If this was an attempt to garner financial support from FPL as Tracy Carroll did in the last election, I doubt even Sancho Panza would be impressed by his approach to windmills.

And Tim Zorc is looking for the same financial aid from FPL down the road for his apparent try for a re-election. Here’s the real question….if Charles Wilson does not win a seat on the council will he challenge his friend Zorc for the seat on the County Commission or will he step in and be his buddy’s campaign manager as he was during Zorc’s run for the commission? It is always interesting to see who they will be beating up next – especially since I will not be there to beat up. Oh, I forgot, he is still beating me up even in this article because consider me to be a pretend reporter. BTW Milt, you forgot to mention Wilsons obsession with the IRNA and the bloggers as being responsible for the failure of the sale as well as the others mentioned in the above article.
Everyone made mistakes in the past regarding the sale, but I doubt FPL would make the mistake of supporting him in the upcoming election. They (FPL) are siting pretty right now by holding the city hostage to a dead deal and not letting it go until everyone else does all of the dirty work left to be done such as what the County and Indian River Shores are in process of doing.
I still say, with regards to the upcoming City Council election, ABC….Anybody But Charlie
I can’t believe this! Are we actual residents of this City not entitled to our opinion that the FPL deal is rotten and we don’t want it? And because of the screwed up mess the Troika got us into, it doesn’t seem to be our decision anyway. So why in the world is this guy continuing to annoy us with his rhetoric and his presence? I don’t know, but surely wish someone would buy him a one-way ticket to elsewhere.
