One day after the murder of K.D. Smith Jr. (66) of Vero Beach, detectives continue to search for clues in his killing. In the early morning hours of July 21, 2014, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call from a female indicating that K.D. Smith had been shot in the driveway of the residence at 375 6th Road SW. Deputies and EMS arrived on scene where they found Smith unresponsive. Smith was transported to the Indian River Medical Center where it was determined that he died from a gunshot wound to the torso.
Detectives have learned that in the evening hours prior to his death, Smith worked his usual shift at the Gifford night club Chocolate City. After the club closed, Smith drove himself to his friends house at 375 6th Road SW. Smith did not live at this residence and was there to visit a friend.
Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar stated, “K.D. Smith Jr. was well known in our local community. Our hearts go out to his friends and family in this difficult time. Our detectives have worked tirelessly to bring Mr. Smith’s killer to justice. We will find who did this and get them off the streets.”
Detectives are asking anyone who was at Chocolate City on the evening of July 20, 2014, and may have witnessed any events that led to the death of Smith please come forward with information.
